- Self-Service Portals: Tools like Backstage, Port, Cortex, or custom-built portals that expose golden paths through a catalog-driven UI. A developer searches for "PostgreSQL — Production," clicks a button, fills in a few parameters, and walks away with a fully provisioned, compliant database.
- Guardrails, Not Gates: Instead of manual approval workflows that slow everything down, Platform Engineering embeds policy checks directly into the provisioning pipeline. Resource limits, network segmentation rules, tagging standards, and compliance requirements are enforced automatically at deploy time.
- Developer Experience as a Product: Platform teams treat internal developers as their customers. They measure adoption, track satisfaction, and iterate on their platform the same way a product team iterates on a SaaS application.
The business case is compelling. Organizations that adopt Platform Engineering report measurably faster onboarding times, fewer misconfigurations, and a significant reduction in the cognitive load placed on application developers. In regulated industries like financial services, where I spend most of my time, the governance benefits alone justify the investment.
But here is the problem that most Platform Engineering implementations quietly sweep under the rug: what happens to configuration data after the golden path finishes executing?

In financial services, this agent is particularly valuable. It can map deployed resources to regulatory control frameworks and generate evidence artifacts automatically. Instead of a quarterly fire drill where the compliance team manually audits infrastructure, the Compliance Auditor provides a continuous, real-time compliance posture.
Agent 4: Cost Optimizer Agent
This agent analyzes resource utilization data from cloud providers and correlates it with CMDB records and IDP deployment metadata. It identifies waste — over-provisioned instances, idle load balancers, orphaned storage volumes — and recommends right-sizing actions. Critically, because it has access to the CMDB's service dependency map, it can assess the risk of a right-sizing recommendation before making it.
